General Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963 for Marvel Comics, where the character was white. In 2002, for Marvel's new Ultimate line of books, Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch re-imagined Fury as African-American and to specifically look like actor Samuel L. Jackson. And sure enough, six years later, Jackson began playing the live action version of Nick Fury in several films.
